Seating Systems come in a variety of configurations. The first question to answer is whether the person needing a seating system intends to stay seated in their wheelchair while inside the vehicle. Some people find this easier, faster and more comfortable. Those people will be looking at either a lowered floor minivan or a full-size van with an occupied lift installed. For those who want to ride in the vehicle's seat (either factory or after-market), either a transfer or turning seat would be appropriate.
Transfer Seat: are designed to be used entirely from within the vehicle. After entering the vehicle from a ramp or lift, the person would transfer from their wheelchair into a rotated automotive seat (either factory or after-market.) They would then use switches to rotate forward, down and into position. Proper securement of the wheelchair is important.
Turning Automotive Seats: are designed to rotate outside the vehicle to allow transfer from the wheelchair onto the automotive seat. At this point, the seat's lifting mechanism would like the seat up and into the vehicle. Again, proper securement of the wheelchair is also needed.
Don't forget a lift for your wheelchair!
