Occupied wheelchair lifts are designed to lift a person while seated in their wheelchair into a vehicle. More often than not, this will require a full-size van, due to the size and weight of the lift. Several classifications of lifts are available:

• Dual - supports on both sides of the platform
• Single - support only on one side of the platform

• Allows either the ability to walk "through" the lift or see "over" the lift
• Sliding Lift
• Uses a sliding mechanism and integrity of dual-parallel arm design to provide a "walk-through" feature and more room for the front passenger position/seat.
